future of Korea coincide.
What is Mullae Arts Village?
An exotic village in the city center where the energy of the ironworks craftsmen coeval with the creative urge of the artists
It is an art studio town that has been formed since 2003 by small and medium-sized ironworks concentrated on Mullae 3-ga, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul.
In the 2000s, as the tenant companies moved out of the complex due to the factory relocation policy and redevelopment, young artists from Hongdae, Daehak-ro, and other areas became aware of the place by word of mouth and began to fill in the vacant ironwork sites to turn them into their own art studios.
More than 170 artists are active in some 100 workspaces as of the first half of 2011. Including visual arts genres such as painting, installation, sculpture, design, illustration, photography, video, calligraphy, film, fashion and animation, performing artists for the genres of dance, theater, mime, street performances, traditional arts and music, as well as cultural activists from various fields, including cultural criticism, cultural planning, scenarios and natural sciences have established their workspaces in this area.
