Bamseom Island
Bamseom Island
Famous as a place of migratory birds, the island is situated where Seogangdaegyo Bridge runs through in the downstream area of Hangang River nearby Mapodaegyo Bridge. The name "Bamseom," meaning “chestnut island,” is derived from its shape, which resembles a chestnut. The island is isolated by nature, but if Yeouido gradually transforms into a larger river island, reducing water in narrow strip sedimentary silt, the island becomes connected to Yeouido. Its bedrock is composed of hard rock layers, and the river cliffs on the east and west of the island created extraordinary scenery as evident in its nickname of ‘little Haegeumgang River’.
